Kyoto, June 26 (Jiji Press)–Canadian Foreign Minister David Emerson highly valued Japan’s support measures for Afghanistan in a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura on Thursday.

At the meeting, held in this western Japan city, Komura explained Japanese measures to aid Afghanistan, such as Maritime Defense Force vessels’ refueling mission in the Indian Ocean in support of the U.S.-led war on terrorism in Afghanistan.

In addition, Komura and Emerson agreed to strengthen economic ties between Japan and Canada, such as the promotion of trade and investment, in light of this year marking the 80th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The bilateral meeting was held on the sidelines of a two-day conference of the Group of Eight foreign ministers through Saturday.
