Canada: Development and Accountability
Prospects:
It is very likely that development and accountability will be one of Canada’s main priorities during the 2011 Deauville G8 Summit. During the 2010 Muskoka G8 Summit, Canada highlighted the importance of accountability, which was evidenced by the creation of the Muskoka Accountability Report. This report was released under Canada’s leadership, and is therefore a strong Canadian legacy for future summits. The Muskoka Declaration reiterated Canada’s commitment to following through on this commitment. It states that G8 member states aim to “underline the critical importance of accountability for ensuring that these collective commitments [relating to health and food security] are met.”
