Canadian press briefing: Libya – Thursday, 26 May 2011
Prime Minister Harper will talk with the other G8 leaders about developing a unified position in the Middle East and North Africa. Canada maintains that is has not exceeded the United Nations Security Council mandate in Libya, as suggested by Russia, stating that Maummar Gaddafi has lost all legitimacy to lead. In a Canadian press briefing, it was stated that monetary contribution, the new “Marshall Plan”, is a means to the end of democratic and economic reform, not to be equated with debt relief.
