EU – Biodiversity: 0.25

The EU has received a score of 0.25 for its biodiversity objectives. The G8 leaders admitted they were not on track with meeting biodiversity goals for 2010, which was the Year of Biodiversity. The leaders reaffirmed their support of biodiversity targets in conjunction with those pertaining to climate change, but the only agreements reached were to commit to facilitating the adoption of voluntary sustainability criteria and capacity building activities under the Global Bioenergy Partnership, and an agreement to establish an Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. The leaders were supportive of the upcoming 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which the EU had likewise come out in support of as a forum for potential real progress in this sector.
