European Union: Food Security [1]
Issues in relation to food security were an integral to the discussions held at the 2012 Camp David Summit. In the Camp David Declaration released on 19 May 2012, the G8 reconfirmed their commitment to “working together to reduce poverty” and committed to fulfilling any “outstanding L’Aquila financial pledges”. They also “seek to maintain strong support to address current and future global food security challenges, including through bilateral and multilateral assistance, and agree to take new steps to accelerate progress towards food security and nutrition in Africa and globally, on a complementary basis.” Moreover, the G8 also committed to launching a “New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition to accelerate the flow of private capital to African agriculture”. Thus, the European Union receives a score of 1.
