Issues surrounding regional peace and security were integral to the discussions held at the 2011 Deauville Summit. In the Deauville Declaration released on 27 May 2011 the Group of Eight Leaders stated: “we recall our commitment to seeking a safer world for all and to creating the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons in accordance with the goals of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), in a way that promotes international stability based on the principles of undiminished security for all.” To achieve this more effectively, the G8 agrees “to extend the Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction (G8GP) beyond 2012”.Plans to foster peace in the MENA region include economic and societal development in Afghanistan. Thus, France receives a score of 0.75.
