Japan: Nuclear & Natural Disasters: Food Security & Safety: (+.5)
Postscript: .5
In the G8 summit communiqué, – “Renewed Commitment for Freedom and Democracy” under Section I, Solidarity with Japan, the G8 has discussed food security for Japan on a minor note. They expressed that all products exported from Japan are safe showing that short term action is being taken by the Japanese government to ensure the security and safety of their food and other products.
Food Security was mentioned under Section III, Green Growth: Article 36, Section V, Climate Change and Biodiversity: Article 54 and other section of the communiqué. However these references were not relevant to the issue of food security in Japan as described above. Thus in summary, Japan has taken short term actions to ensure the security and stability of their internal food supply and their export products, but thus far no long term plan has been released to address this problem and thus they have been awarded a score of .5
