RESEARCHERS CHECK UP ON G8’S PROMISES
TORONTO, CANADA – This Monday morning, the University of Toronto’s G8 Research Group will release the results of their compliance study. The study tracks countries’ progress in fulfilling the commitments made at each G8 summit.
Preliminary results show poor performance on trade issues. Compliance has been stronger in other areas, particularly Regional Security: Afghanistan and Pakistan, Terrorism and Piracy. Action has also been taken to reform international financial institutions and there has been an overall push to fulfill commitments in the lead-up to the 2010 Muskoka summit.
The G8 Research Group is one of the world’s leading independent sources for independent information and analysis on the G8 and global governance. The compliance reports are written and edited by a team of approximately 150 students. Twenty-four commitments are being monitored this year, on the world economy, climate change, development issues and counter-terrorism.
The G8 Research Group will be on-site at the International Media Centre of the 2010 Muskoka Summit to provide in-depth analysis as the summit unfolds. With more that 20 analysts on hand to discuss each of the pressing issues facing the world’s leaders, the G8 Research Group is the premiere source for research and analysis on the G8.
After the press conference, The 2009 Compliance Report will be available online at www.g8.utoronto.ca
Real-time analysis of the 2010 Muskoka Summit will be available online at www.g8live.org
