Russia – Arms Control and Nuclear Non-proliferation SCORE +1

All three of Russia’s Arms Control and Nuclear Non-proliferation objectives have been addressed in the Deauville Communiqué. The leaders have agreed to extend Global Partnership beyond 2012, work together on coordinating possible projects, and to expand membership of the Partnership.  The G8 have agreed to hold a conference in 2012 on a zone free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East in order to advance peace in the region. The communiqué also clearly outlined its support for the New START Treaty and called on all members to participate in the Conference on Disarmament and to start negotiations on banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons.
