Russia’s priorities for Arms Control and Nuclear Nonproliferation discussions
In light of recent foreign ministers meeting on 30 April 2011in Berlin, Russia is expected to find support on its non-proliferation and arms control objectives. The G8 members are expected to support the new START Treaty ratification and to prolong the Global Partnership past 2012. Regarding the nuclear programs of Iran, Russia, along with China, is reluctant to support any further new sanctions. Regarding the nuclear programs of North Korea, Russia is inclined to return to the six-party talks. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov will work bilaterally with the United States to build a “cooperative relationship” on missile defence.
